Art campaign for International Women’s Day: 30 female artists create works – The North German: Current news

The art action that Bärbel Kock is planning on the occasion of International Women’s Day is something very special every year. A little more this year. Not just because it’s the 26th art event by different women for different women. “During the 26th art campaign, we have to forego the joint workshop and the exhibition in the Gustav-Heinemann-Bürgerhaus for the first time,” says Bärbel Kock. It is also special that so many women have registered, two latecomers cannot even be found on the poster that has already been printed. “We just got a picture from Phoenix, Arizona,” says Kock happily.

Nevertheless, the freelance artist and organizer is a little sad: “The participating women had to let their thoughts on the topic run wildly alone at home or in their own studio, without having a whole cozy get-together with a buffet and drinks as in previous years To be able to exchange the day. “However: Bärbel Kock would not be Bärbel Kock if she had not found a solution for the adverse circumstances even during Corona times. “Dear Faith Hope” is the theme she has given. “It is a broad topic, which, in my opinion, fits very well with our current situation, in which we women again bear a major burden.”

The participants were allowed to design relatively freely: Acrylic paints, as a collage, but also digitally, works of art were to be created on a 50 by 70 centimeter canvas. “They also had to send me a photo of their work,” said Bärbel Kock. The works will be presented online on March 8th. “Also with the corresponding texts, because a lot of participants also wrote a text on the topic,” said Bärbel Kock.

A total of 30 women or artists interested in art between the ages of 15 and 70 have registered. In addition to young women from the Aumund leisure center and local artists, “also two women from neighboring countries”, the artist from North Bremen is delighted. Mona Alsalehi May from Sweden and Birgit Schmelling from the Danish island of Bornholm contacted Bärbel Kock.

The freelance artist already raved about the first 25 photos of the works of art, which were first received by Bärbel Kock: “The completely different approach is already recognizable in the techniques used, from drawings to Pop Art, real, surreal, impressionistic or abstract painting Everything is included up to glued collages “, so Bärbel Kock and arouses further curiosity:” The contents speak for themselves. The viewer should like to take a little more time to look at it in order to better understand the content of the representations. “

With the exception of two stragglers, all pictures can be seen on a printed poster, which the participants also receive. From March 8th, the works will be presented one by one, “probably four to six pieces in one day”. Bärbel Kock also hopes that the lockdown phase will soon end and that cultural events will have a chance again. “We hope that the pictures can be presented as planned from October 4th to 20th this year in the community center,” explains Bärbel Kock. In addition, she reminded them that the normal course of this exhibition should be retained. Namely because this exhibition with works of art by women can not only be seen in the Vegesack community center. Usually the exhibition also goes on tour in autumn, for example to Erfurt. More exhibitions could follow.
