At the initiative of the Hauts de l’Auxois association, about fifty Icaunais demonstrated in Avallon on Saturday 11 December. They demand the stopping of the wind farm in Cussy-les-Forges (Yonne), as long as the administrative court of appeal of Lyon has not yet ruled on the project.
They do not want wind turbines and chanted it this Saturday, December 11, in the streets of Avallon. About fifty people responded to the appeal of several environmental protection groups. Objective: to demand the freezing of the site, started at the end of August, of the five wind turbine park planned for Cussy-les-Forges (Yonne).
Legal site, but “shocking”
The Terre-Plaine wind farm has been in the works for about ten years. The association Les Hauts de l’Auxois had filed an appeal following the authorization order of the prefect in 2016. Unsuccessful by the administrative court of Dijon in March 2020, the association therefore turned to the court of administrative call from Lyon.
“We blame the company for having already started the work. Even if the appeal is not suspensive, it is a shame to do so“, fulses Emmanuel Chevillotte, at the head of Hauts de l’Auxois.
The Enertag company which carries the project is in fact legally entitled to start this work. But while the concrete has just been poured on site, ready to accommodate the five machines, Christophe Normier is disappointed.
“It’s shocking. You say to yourself ‘but what will justice do? We try to influence it, to guide its decision so that it is presented with a fait accompli? “ asks the angry president of the MorVent association, also a regional councilor. “So we think that demonstrating today is fundamental to demonstrate that on our side we do not intend to stand idly by.“
Too many wind farms in the Yonne
The demonstrators also denounce the proliferation of wind projects in the department, which they consider disastrous.
“I live near Aisy-sur-Armançon, a town in which there is a project to install 18 wind turbines, while the space is already saturated, tells Cédric Maunier in the procession, member of the association Landscapes and Forests of Armançon. The Yonne is one of the areas most affected by wind farms in the region and it would be good if it stopped.“
“The gain is zero in terms of energy, the carbon registration is enormous in the installation of wind turbines and it is a damage to the landscapes“, argues for her part an opponent, formerly in favor of wind turbines.
According to the last wind point of the Regional Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Housing (DREAL) in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in April 2021, Yonne is the second department with the most park with the Côte-d’Or.
28 wind farms have been authorized in the Yonne, ie 203 wind turbines. Until April, 18 wind farms or 137 wind turbines were in operation.

No answer before May?
The Cussy-les-Forges park could come into service at the end of the first half of 2022. Opponents would like a rapid return from the Lyon Court of Appeal.
They hope that in the meantime the wind turbines will not be mounted and ask that a new environmental study be carried out.
