Armed Belarusian Border Guards Cross Lithuanian Border on January 22

On Monday, January 22, an incident occurred on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border – three armed Belarusian border guards crossed the border and went deep into Lithuanian territory.

The State Border Guard Service of Lithuania (SODKB) reported that on Monday, January 22, in the Ignalina region of the country, three armed Belarusian border guards entered Lithuanian territory at a distance of up to 2.5 meters.

The national broadcaster reports this LRT.

According to the SODKB, the armed violators approached the physical barrier already on the Lithuanian side, but returned back. Lithuanian border guards watched this, ready to react.

Violations were recorded by employees of the border control system of the Pushkos border bail of the Vilnius border detachment.

“After entering the Lithuanian side, the Belarusians began to walk between the established physical barrier, preventing further access deep into Lithuania, and the border line. The forces of the border guards of the Puškos outpost were immediately called to this place, but since the incident did not develop, there was no need for their intervention,” – say the SODKB.

According to Lithuanian border guards, material is now being collected and the issue of starting a pre-trial investigation into illegal border crossing is being decided.

Let us remind you that Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis believes that if Ukraine does not stop Russia, it will move on. So Lithuania takes the threat of a Russian attack on the Baltic countries seriously.
