Argentine tennis players in the New York bubble: the results of Covid-19

most of Argentine tennis players who arrived in New York a few hours ago to participate in the Cincinnati tournament, starting next Saturday, and the US Open, starting on the 31st of this month, underwent the Covid-19 tests, and after receiving negative results, They were given the freedom to attend and train at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, scene of both competitions of the American tour on hard surface.

Diego Schwartzman, that this Sunday he turned 28, and his team, which includes coach Juan Ignacio Chela and physical trainer Martiniano Orazi; Guido Pella and his physical trainer, Juan Galván; the cordovan Juan Ignacio Londero (and his coach Sebastián Prieto); and Federico Coria (and his coach Diego Junqueira) waited for the result of the PCR-swabs in their respective rooms, in a hotel far from Manhattan.

Once they were informed, by message, that their tests had been negative, they were authorized to leave the guarded hotel and move to Flushing Meadows, always staying in the security “bubble” organized by the United States Tennis Association ( USTA) and city health authorities. Schwartzman, for example, published on his social networks the message he received from the authorities, in which they informed him that he had tested negative for coronavirus.

The Argentine players are staying at a hotel on Long Island, approximately 35 kilometers from the Cincinnati stage and the US Open. This Sunday, for example, it took an hour to get to the club.

There are not only Argentine tennis players in New York. In Todi, Italy, a Challenger tournament on brick dust will begin this Monday, with the presence of six national rackets: Renzo Olivo, Marco Trungelliti, Facundo Mena, Andrea Collarini, Facundo Bagnis and Juan Pablo Ficovich.

NIshikori tested positive

The Japanese Kei Nishikori confirmed that he tested positive for coronavirus and will not be available for the Cincinnati Masters 1000, which will be played from August 22 to 28 in New York. “This morning I was tested and I tested positive. Unfortunately I will not go to Cincinnati. I feel fine, with few symptoms but obviously I will be isolated for safety,” Nishikori said in his official mobile application.

Nishikori, 31st in the ATP ranking, is in Florida, United States, and next Friday he will undergo another test, awaiting a result that allows him to travel to New York and play the US Open. The Japanese, who has not played officially for almost a year, was scheduled to play the next US Open, but his participation was suspended.
