‘Apple green’ house in Den Helder needs to be painted over NOW

The ‘apple-green’ facade of a house in Den Helder should not remain the same color, according to the Council of State on Wednesday in an appeal in the case. The judges emphasize that it is not about whether the color is “beautiful or cheerful”, but rule that the color deviates too far from the requirements set by the municipality.

In the neighborhood there has been a lot of commotion about the house. Several local residents have already wanted to discuss the color of the facade, which is called ‘apple green’ by some and ‘yellow green’ by others. The municipality also preferred a different color on the facade.

After this reaction from the municipality, Ineke van Amersfoort, the resident, started a case at the court in Amsterdam. However, she also ruled that she should repaint the house.

“The fact that the municipality allowed her to paint her house green in 2008 does not change this. After all, it was a different, less bright shade of green,” the court said last year. The woman appealed to this.

The Council of State now also says that the municipality was right in the view that the yellow-green color “because of the intensity thereof detracts from the harmony in the district”. It is not known what color the house will now get.
