Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service on Tuesday against US information technology giant Apple Inc. imposed a fine of $ 12.1 million (ten million euros) for abuse of market dominance.
The service has made such a decision after receiving a complaint from the cyber security company Kaspersky Lab.
Apple does not agree with this decision of the service and will appeal against it.
The service points out that the company has provided benefits in its iOS software to its own applications.
As reported, a law came into force in Russia on April 1, which requires that smartphones, tablets and computers sold in the country must be pre-installed with locally produced software and applications.
The law was introduced to support Russian technology companies, but critics say it is another attempt by Moscow to control Russia’s digital space more closely.
The law requires all devices with an Internet connection sold in the country, regardless of whether they are manufactured domestically or abroad, to be equipped with the necessary software, otherwise fines may be imposed from July.
