Antony Gautier, football referee, elected mayor of Bailleul, Marc Deneuche beaten

Known by Ligue 1 fans, football referee Antony Gautier (DIV) won the second round of municipal elections this Sunday evening in Bailleul (North), facing outgoing Marc Deneuche (DVC) and environmentalist Joël Lecat.


After refereing Ligue 1 matches for 13 seasons, Antony Gautier will discover at the age of 41 the functions of mayor, in Bailleul, his hometown. The list “Bailleuloises, Bailleulois” (DIV) that he drove was imposed this Sunday evening in the second round of the municipal elections at the end of a triangular which opposed him to the outgoing mayor, Marc Deneuche (DVD) and to the ecologist Joël Lecat (DVE).

Antony Gautier won 50.3% of the vote, against 27.3% for Marc Deneuche and 22.4% for Joël Lecat.

The poll mobilized this Sunday only 48.2% of the voters registered in Bailleul, Flemish city of 14,769 inhabitants.

A unique configuration

The first round of the municipal elections had caused the equivalent of a traffic jam since five lists had exceeded the 10% necessary to be able to remain in the second round of the poll. Of these five lists, there were only three left this Sunday: Joël Decat and his list “Unis Pour Bailleul” had merged with those of Maxime Deplancke (10.4%) and Bénédicte Crépel (10%) and Antony Gautier had was joined by Nicolas Lefebvre (14%).
