Another two mink farms infected: now in Wilbertoord and Overloon

Corona infections have been detected at mink farms in Wilbertoord and Overloon. In Wilbertoord it concerns a company with approximately 1250 mother animals. The infection was brought to light there by reporting symptoms of disease in the mink. The animals have since been culled.

In Overloon the company had about 7500 mother animals. There, the contamination emerged from the monitoring system in which animals are tested for the virus every week, the system that early warning is called. This company will also be cleared as soon as possible.

A total of 52 mink farms of the approximately 128 mink farms in the Netherlands have now been declared infected. It concerns 41 mink farms in Brabant and 11 companies outside our province.

Additional research
The Ministry of Agriculture recently announced that the additional research will do to possible deliberate infection with the corona virus in mink farmers. The large number of infected companies raises questions for politicians.

The cabinet recently decided to speed up an end to mink breeding. They must stop next March instead of 2024. The cabinet wants to prevent the corona virus from continuing to circulate on mink farms. The cabinet is making 180 million euros available for the remediation.
