Angus Cloud, Star of Euphoria, Passes Away at 25: Possible Overdose and Mental Health Concerns

Angus Cloud, the actor of the Euphoria series, passed away on July 31 at the age of 25, for reasons that are not so clear. Until now, the origin of his death has not been confirmed, but everything points to mental health problems and a possible overdose. The actor was first known for playing the character of Fez in Euphoria, the HBO series starring Zendaya. His entry into the series was completely accidental and surprising.

Cloud was born in Oakland, California; and growing up he had zero interest in being an actor. He came to enter the world of Euphoria in the most unusual way, the occasion presenting itself to him on a trip to New York when he was 18 years old.

When he was walking through the streets of the Big Apple, a woman appeared to him; she assured him that she worked for a casting company and it caught his attention. She asked him to accompany her for the casting of a new series; to simply read the script for now. The actor explained all this in an interview for GQ in 2019. At first he did not feel comfortable: “I was confused and I did not want to give him my phone number. I thought it was a scam,” he explained.

But he followed, giving the woman a chance. They arrived at a large room where there were other boys their age, reading that same script: the script that would end up being the first chapter of Euphoria. The actor explained that he changed some elements of the script, which he believed caught the attention of those responsible for the casting. “I had to change it up a bit to make it sound real, as I would put it,” he said.

For the next occasion, he read the script in front of the director Augustine Frizzell, who was in charge of the pilot episode of the series. They liked her performance so much that she got the part, which radically changed her life. By then the young man had moved to New York and had no great plans for his life. He was working in a restaurant at the time and had moved to the Big Apple to live closer to friends.

Once he got the role, he further prepared himself to be an actor by reading about method acting and watching YouTube tutorials on the subject. Cloud was sure that the producers chose him precisely because of his simplicity as a person rather than elaborate complicated acting methods. “I’ll just show up there, do what they want and be done with it,” he added in the interview.

After the call confirming the production of Euphoria, Cloud moved to Los Angeles and lived on Airbnbs for the eight months of filming, since he could not find a way to secure the contract for a particular apartment. While filming, she became friends with Zendaya and the other actors in the cast, while she honed the knack for the trade. Before her tragic death, her career had a lot of potential; her with several projects where she was going to participate, like The Line, Freaky Tales, or Your Lucky Day; where she would appear with renowned actors such as Halle Bailey or Pedro Pascal.
