Angry Marieke Elsinga: “I’m not too fat!”

TV and radio stars are often approached to promote stuff. Marieke Elsinga also recently received an offer, but she only got angry at that.

The Q-Music-DJ and RTL Boulevardpresenter that she got an offer from ‘a well-known weight loss brand’. At first she thought only “no”, but the longer she thought about it, the more poisonous she became!

Elsinga writes that the weight loss brand was ‘looking for people who want to shed their pounds’. The brand saw ‘a good match with Marieke.’ If you let this sink in for you, Elsinga got a message criticizing her weight. Ouch!

I’m going to do something here that I don’t do very often, which is to share my frustration. My management regularly receives requests from brands that want to cooperate. Ambassadorship, partnerships, whatever you want to call it. In almost all cases I turn that down. Sometimes a brand suits me well and I go for it. Last week, the requests included an email from an agency that is looking for ambassadors for a well-known weight loss brand. I quote: “For a new collaboration, we are looking for people who want to take on the challenge to get rid of their (corona?) Kilos. We see a good match with Marieke. “My manager knows me well and so had already thanked me kindly, but sent the request to me for verification. I read it, said:” No, nothing for me “and clicked it away But then I read it again and thought, “Whoa … this isn’t really nice text at all!” So it says that I can put some (corona?) Pounds off! The agency does not mean any harm and I am fairly sturdy in my shoes, but who are they to determine that for me? Now I am not against diets (In fact, I ‘Sonja Bakkerde’ drowsy during my studies!), but I do not like to send out the signal that my body is ‘too fat’. Certainly not because I have a long range. My body is strong and I may not be ‘Hilversum slim’ and I think that is exactly where the strength lies. If we keep pretending that every woman should look like in the magazines or on TV, we are really sending the wrong signal. children you may find me too fat, just right or even too thin, all fine I am not sharing this because I would like to read ‘You are perfect’ or ‘You are beautiful’ below, I share this because I want to contribute to a more normal self-image among (young) women, something I struggle with myself. # bodypositivity

“This is actually not a nice text at all!” Thought Marieke, and although she did not personally take the ‘criticism’, she thought it was a negative message. “Who are they to determine that for me?” Elsinga is reluctant to declare herself ‘too fat’, so she kindly thanked her for the dubious honor.

Marieke Elsinga is ‘body positive’

Elsinga posted the story not to provoke positive reactions, but because she wants to contribute to a more positive body image in (young) women: something that she sometimes struggles with.

Marieke receives a lot of support under the post. Sarah Chronis, Jan Versteegh and Claudia de Breij react positively, but there are also famous women who got exactly the same offer! Evi Hanssen, Marlijn Weerdenburg and Barbara Sloesen received the same ‘compliment’.

Elsinga recently also had a meeting with someone who asked ‘out of the blue’ if she was pregnant. What is it with those people?
