André van Duin: “Martin has enriched my life”

The comedian and presenter tells in De Telegraaf frank about the huge loss.

Martin died on Monday after a short and debilitating illness to the effects of bone cancer. According to André, Martin was ‘so strong’ until the last moment. “Also because he was so young of course, his heart kept pumping. During the chemos he should have been much sicker than he was, the doctors didn’t understand that.”

In October Martin decided that he wanted to make his body available to science. “Because he really wanted to do something good for the people. He wanted to thank for the beautiful life he had. We had long discussions about it and I thought that was a good idea,” says André. “He is gone now, but the idea that in 20 or 22 years something useful will still happen to his remains.”

André liked the idea so much that he too decided to sign the same papers. “My body will soon go to science too: solidarity with Martin.”

Without a funeral, the end was a bit abrupt, André thought. “But we lived together and there is a farewell meeting this weekend with about one hundred and fifty men. Mart was so loved in the business. Everyone was really fond of him, women too. He was also a handsome, charming man And so sweet. He has enriched my life, made it so wonderful. “

André has emptied his diary until May. Nevertheless, the presenter thinks he should do it again soon, partly on the advice of Simone Kleinsma who lost her husband in 2017. “She made it by working hard. And she advises me to just keep talking to Martin, people may find it strange, she is convinced that her Guus is there or it should be. And I think so too. I think that I have to do something again soon. What distraction, that should help. “
