After he had to start on the bench on the previous matchday, Dries Mertens got a starting spot on Sunday evening from Gennaro Gatusso in the home match against low-flyer SPAL. Mertens did not wait long to thank his coach for the confidence. After four minutes Mertens launched an attack himself and after a few intermediate stations he was able to slip through the offside trap.
