In the second stage of the Estonian Beach Volleyball Cup, brothers Alexander and Mikhail Samoilov played in one duo on Saturday, the athletes were able to conclude the first day with two successes.

In Estonia, an unusual view was seen on the beach areas on Saturday, as the Samoilov brothers decided to start together in the second stage of the Northern Neighboring National Cup, who managed to end the first day of the competition with convincing victories.

In the first game in the subgroup C game Samoilovi with 2-0 (21:17, 21:11) convincingly defeated the Lithuanians Tomas Stasēvičs / Mantas Donels, but in the second duel with 2-0 (21:15, 21:14) the Latvians Arnis Reliņš / Ardis Daniels Bedrītis.

Reliņš / Pitrītis in the first duel with 1-2 (21:13, 17:21, 9:15) gave way to Kauris Ēriks Kais / Rasmus Meius from Estonia, but in the third fight with 2-0 (21:17, 21:12) defeated Steven Kabanenu / Karl Jānis from Estonia.

Mārtiņš Pļaviņš / Edgars Točs, as well as Rūdolfs Stankevičs / Rihards Finsters also started the competition in subgroup B.

Pļaviņš / Točs defeated Stankevičius / Finster in the first duel 2-0 (21:12, 21:15), but in the second 2-0 (21:13, 21:17) the Estonians Sīms Tammearu / Mārts Tammearu were defeated.

In the second duel, Stankevičs / Finsters defeated the Estonians Mikel Tanil / Aleksejs Povjakels 2-0 (22:20, 21:18), but in the third match 0-2 (13:21, 18:21) Artūrs Vasiljevs / Roberts Jučnevičs from Lithuania lost 0-2 (13:21, 18:21).

Aleksandrs Solovejs / Ralfs Namiķis also started in the men’s competition in subgroup A. In the first fight with 1-2 (21:17, 16:21, 10:15) they lost to Kusti Nelvaks / Martis Tisārs, but in the second with 0-2 (14:21, 16:21) they lost to Timo Lemuss / Dimitrija Korotkov from Estonia .

After one of the games, Pļaviņš shared his impressions with the tournament organizers, who indicated that it was very interesting to go on the field after a very, very long break. “It was interesting to play against Latvians. The feelings are not the best, because we are not in the rhythm of the games, but I think we will get it during this tournament,” said Pļaviņš.

On Sunday, in the quarterfinals, Pļaviņš / Točs will meet with Reliņš / Bedrīte, but the Samoilov brothers are expected to fight with Vasiljeva / Jučnevičs.

Meanwhile, in the ladies’ competition, Latvia’s leading duo player Anastasija Kravčenoka in subgroup B plays together with Lithuanian Viteni Vitkauskaitė. Marta Ozoliņa / Luīze Skrastiņa also played in the same subgroup. Kristīne Briede / Krista Paegle are drawn in subgroup A, but in subgroup C Varvara Brailko plays together with Latvian Aneta Namiķi.

Kravčenoka with his partner won Ozoliņa / Skrastiņa in the first game with 2-0 (21:13, 21:15), but in the second with Kadri Keskūla / Kadri Vinka beat 2-0 (21: 5, 21:14). Ozolina / Skrastiņa in the second duel with 2-0 (21:15, 21:17) was better than Keskūla / Vinka, but in the final game of the day with 2-1 (18:21, 21:18, 15: 6) Marija Pohlak / Marie Lurman from Estonia.

Briede / Paegle failed in the first game, but Brailko / Namiķe achieved two successes. Kravčenoka / Vitkauskaite and Brailko / Namiķe had guaranteed their place in the quarterfinals after two games, but after the third duel Ozoliņa / Skrastiņa also joined the regiment.

In the quarterfinals, the Kravčenoka duo will meet with Ieva Vasilauskaitė / Skrastiņa, Brailko / Namiķe will compete with Silja Ostrova / Gerli Tomela from Estonia, and Ozoliņa / Skrastiņa will look to win the housewife Helena Hollas / Līss Somets.

The pairs who have won in their first two subgroup games will continue the fight in the quarterfinals on Sunday, but in the evening there will also be semi-final and final matches.

The agency LETA has already reported that Latvian beach volleyball players Arnis Reliņš and Ardis Daniels Bedrītis won the second place in the first stage of the Estonian Cup on Sunday in Rakvere.

Latvia was not represented in the women’s competition.

In Latvia, the beach volleyball season will start next weekend.
