Employees of the Nature Protection Board (DAP) in Rāzna National Park have caught Edvīna Gasparovič, the head of the Resource Control Sector of the Daugavpils Regional Environmental Board of the State Environmental Service (SES), who has been engaged in small-scale fishing, Latvian Television reports.

The offense happened on Saturday. DAPis representative Dainis Tučs said that underwater hunting equipment and one eel were found near Gasparovičs. During his detention, Gasparovich behaved aggressively and fled from environmental guards and police officers.

Gasparovich himself claimed to have been engaged in “free diving” and underwater filming.

An administrative case has been initiated by the DPO. In her turn, the representative of the SES Kristīne Pļaveniece has admitted that a disciplinary violation can be seen in Gasparovičs’ actions, for which an official may be dismissed.
