Already this weekend, the winners of the first Lithuanian volleyball season trophy will be announced at the Alytus Volleyball Center. Four men’s clubs will compete here for the Lithuanian Volleyball Federation (LTF) Cup.
This tournament is really intriguing, because the three currently strongest “Master Code” Lithuanian men’s volleyball championship teams will be joined by the Gargžda “Amber Volley” club competing in the Baltic League.
Having lost both the LTF Cup and the title of Lithuanian champion last year, the Gargžda club will seek to regain these titles. Amber Volley in the semifinals on Saturday at 5 p.m. will meet with Vilnius University (VU) volleyball players.
The game of the VU team this year depends very much on how well they manage to assemble the composition. With all the best players to help the team, they will surely try to challenge the favorites in this match. Meanwhile, “Amber Volley” has an advantage not only in terms of equipment, but also in practice – they play matches at a much higher level in the Baltic Championship every weekend.
“I hope the players will enjoy their game on the pitch and give 110 percent. self I can say that playing in the LTF Cup can be a bit of a challenge for us because the balls will be different than in the Baltic League. We will have to be focused so that unusual things cause us as little trouble as possible. I don’t expect easy matches in the LTF Cup, because I see capable players in each team, both in Lithuania and in the Baltic League,” said Amber Volley’s Latvian coach Austris Štals.
at 2 p.m. the first semi-final will begin, in which the Šiauliai “Elgos-Grafaitės-SC Dubysos” club, which is unbeaten in Lithuania this season and defending the titles of the LTF Cup and national champions, will meet with “Sūduva” from Marijampolė.
The people of Šiauliai are full of ambitions this year, but the lack of fiercer competition may slow them down a bit. The experienced team of “Sūduva” has repeatedly proven that they can overcome anything, so they will also try to disturb the peace of the favorites.
“We are really looking forward to the finals of the LTF Cup, the level of the Lithuanian championship is quite low and we do not face any opposition. We expect to play Gargždai in the final and we know it will be difficult there, because Amber Volley is a capable team playing in the Baltic League. However, we do not promise to give up and we will fight. We have a good team this year and we can definitely compete with them. We have a plan and we will try to implement it, but now all our thoughts are about the semi-finals”, said the coach of “Elgos-Grafaitės-SC Dubysos” Modest Strockis.
Sunday at 12 o’clock the match for third place will begin, and at 3 p.m. – the grand finale.
