An expert in Mayan natural medicine is burned alive for alleged witchcraft in Guatemala

The victim was part of a pharmaceutical research team made up of scientists from universities in different countries.

Several people lynched and burned a Mayan natural medicine expert and spiritual guide alive on June 6 in the village where he lived, near the municipality of San Luis (Petén, Guatemala), because they believed that he practiced witchcraft, media reports local.

Domingo Choc Che, known as ‘Grandpa Domingo’, was a member of a team of pharmaceutical research made up of scientists from University College London (United Kingdom) and the universities of Zurich (Switzerland) and Valle (Guatemala).

This man was executed by his neighbors because they believed that he had caused damage to several members of the community and the residents of that village at first prevented the public order forces from accessing the place.

The murder of that specialist outraged both Guatemalan society and the European researchers with whom he worked. The Attorney for Human Rights of Guatemala, Jordán Rodas, also condemned the crime and has demanded justice to the authorities.
