Caviar struck again. The equipment manufacturer has just presented a brand new iPhone 12 Pro personalized by him. This time, no gilding or portrait with the effigy of Vladimir Poutine, the engineers of the company preferred to give life to a chimera composed of an iPhone and… you will laugh… an Apple 1.
The Apple 1, as the name suggests, was the very first computer made by Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne. Computer that was born in the garage of the parents of the second.
Listed for sale in April 1976, it was assembled by hand and was priced at the time for $ 666.66.
The Apple I, a timeless machine
Not surprisingly, only two hundred units were produced. And after all these years, only six copies would still be in working order.
At the time, the Apple I wasn’t bad and it even found itself at the head of a rather convincing spec sheet. It actually included an 8-bit MOS Technology 6502 processor clocked at 1 MHz, with 8 KB of RAM and 256 bytes of ROM. But above all, it was possible to extend its RAM to 60 kb and we had as a bonus a display capable of displaying 40 characters long and 24 characters high.
If these few lines can make you smile, it should still be noted that the Apple I is currently selling at a high price among collectors. In 2017, a copy of the famous computer was sold for € 110,000 by the Breker house.
An iPhone 12 Pro with Apple 1 parts, for a hefty price tag
But what does this have to do with the iPhone 12 Pro, you will tell me? Until now, the only link between the two products was the identity of their manufacturer. However, Caviar wanted to go further and the brand therefore announced this week an iPhone 12 Pro equipped with parts from… the Apple 1. A kind of chimera which will of course be negotiated at a high price. The copy will indeed be offered at $ 9,900, ten times the price of a brand new iPhone 12 Pro.
So yes, it is true that it figures, but it will be the price to pay to have a unique phone, or almost.
