Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Photographer Johan Wandrag was looking for something interesting to document at the Sunset Dam in the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

And just then, Wandrag, who works as a teacher for high school students, notices a crocodile slowly swimming toward him.

In an interview with CNN in Arabic, the South African photographer said: “I was ready, with my application of the correct settings on my camera, and I only reacted when I saw him (the crocodile) attacking a fish.”

The situation resulted in a funny picture, but not for the fish, which definitely turned into a meal.

In the dynamic image, the helpless fish is at the mercy of the nimble jaws of a crocodile.

Of all the photographs he documented, Wandrag saw this scene as his favourite, as well as being “one of the best he’s ever taken, as it was one of those moments when everything came together to make an almost perfect picture.”

The photographer also noted that the “surprised expression” on the fish’s face encourages one to take a second look.

And when he saw this snapshot when browsing the group of photos he documented, Wandrag realized that it was a unique photo, and difficult to repeat.

“The photo became an instant hit when I posted it on a private wildlife photography page on Facebook, and it received a lot of likes and comments,” the photographer confirmed.

This funny picture won the “Photo of the Year” award for the “Getaway Magazine” holiday magazine in South Africa in 2020, and it also ranked first in the “Kruger Magazine” competition, and the second place in the “Animal Behavior” category in the “Nature Through the Lens” competition. in 2021.

In addition to his work as a wildlife photographer, he also works as a part-time sports photographer.
