AMLO presumes that 75 businessmen offered 1,500 million pesos for the raffle

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that during yesterday’s dinner at the National Palace they made commitments with 75 businessmen for 1.5 billion pesos, equivalent to more than 3 million tickets for the presidential plane raffle, whose profits will be used to buy medical equipment .

“Yesterday we already obtained dispersion commitments, buying tickets for half of the 3 billion we are thinking of obtaining.”

In addition, he said that other entrepreneurs could join as they could not attend yesterday’s meeting.

The president said that signed letters were signed, in it the businessmen left their data so that at the end of this month the raffle series will be delivered.

They will decide what to do, some will distribute them with other companies, others will sell them in their stores, in their banks, others will deliver them to their workers or promote their products, he said.

“I have to thank the businessmen very much for attending, there were no disappointments, we summoned them and they participated, they were given an exhibition of why they made the decision to do the raffle,” he said this morning at a press conference.

He explained that the meeting also talked about the fact that public servants cannot have luxury airplanes, private helicopters, “we must live in austerity, in the right middle ground as President Juarez proposes.”

“The raffle is a sobering act so that nobody ever dares to offend that way (buying an expensive plane) to the people of Mexico, and those excesses are over.”

Dinner with businessmen

The event was attended by entrepreneurs such as Carlos Slim, Emilio Azcárraga, María Aramburuzabala, Antonio del Valle, Olegario Vázquez, Miguel Alemán, Carlos Peralta, Miguel Alemán Velasco, Miguel Alemán Magnani and the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Carlos Salazar.

In photographs released by the presidency, it is observed that a tombola was placed, like the one used in the Lottery draws, next to a table where businessmen were located, President López Obrador and members of his government team, Alfonso Romo.

Although the raffle ticket that will be held on September 15 at the headquarters of the National Lottery has the image of the presidential plane that the López Obrador government has failed to sell, the 100 winning pieces will not get the plane, but a prize of 20 millions of pesos.

Humberto Garza, CEO of Famsa, said that during dinner They put on the table a document with options or “suggestions” to cooperate, buying a certain amount of raffle tickets, although there was no obligation to sign it. He said he did not commit to make any contribution, for now, he will think about it.

Benjamín Hernández, from Grupo Vitro, said he did commit to cooperating with 300,000 pesos in the raffle.

Bosco de la Vega, of the National Agricultural Council, said that they deposited in a “ballot box” the letter of cooperation commitment. He said the amount of his cooperation was “confidential.” “There was a good atmosphere, willingness to help,” he said. “Mexico has a health problem, it has an equipment problem, and the issue is how entrepreneurs join the government to improve the situation.”

Antonio Suárez, owner of Tuny, said he will buy 3,000 little pieces from his employees.

Francisco Cervantes, president of the Concamin, said that “nobody’s hand was bent”, that is, that nobody was forced to participate in the raffle. Asked about whether when buying cachitos there could be a tax deduction, he replied: “It can be, we don’t know.”

Cervantes said that there was applause for the president, even standing, when at dinner he spoke that they were no longer times of excess, such as the presidential plane.
