Amersfoort Zoo: not one, but two wolves had escaped

For a while it was communicated that it was about one wolf, but later it turned out to be two wolves. The wolves have since been sedated and brought back to his enclosure. No one was injured.

‘Putting fences together’

Visitor Eric Bax stood with his girlfriend and son of 2.5 years old with the wolves. “And then suddenly we saw a wolf walking between the bushes. I immediately grabbed my son and left.”

Bax knew immediately that this was not the intention. “I think he jumped over the fence. They are in a deep hole that they shouldn’t be able to get out,” he says. “My girlfriend immediately called the police and we put up fences together with other visitors.”

Peaceful atmosphere

Then the message came from the park that everyone had to enter. “We immediately knew why, of course. Now we are in a restaurant with others. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed. My son is not stressed either. He has not received anything from it.”

Bax and his family have a subscription to the Zoo and therefore come there more often. They liked that they saw the wolves at all today. “Often you don’t see them, but they were running around nicely now.”

Last November, two chimpanzees escaped in the park. They were shot. What exactly happened is still unclear.
