American man Paul Alexander was paralyzed after suffering from polio and could not breathe on his own. He lived in an iron lung for more than 70 years and set a Guinness World Record. But he was not knocked down by the pain. Not only did he enter law school and obtain a lawyer’s license, he even published a book, which inspired many people. When his fundraising page was updated on the 12th, it was stated that Alexander had passed away on the 11th at the age of 78, which made the outside world very sad.

According to foreign media reports, Alexander is known as the “Iron Lung Man” by the outside world. Unable to breathe on his own, he lived in an iron lung for more than 70 years and was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as “the person who lived the longest in an iron lung.” In 1952, 6-year-old Alexander contracted polio and nearly died before doctors performed a tracheotomy and put him in an iron lung. After he woke up, only his head, neck and mouth could move. He once revealed that at that time, there were rows of iron lungs in the hospital, and almost all the patients were children. Whenever he communicates and makes friends through expressions, the other person often dies soon after.

Although many people call the iron lung an “iron coffin,” Alexander’s mother found a physical therapist to help Alexander train the “frog breathing technique.” After a year of training, he was able to leave the iron lung for a short period of time. After graduating from high school, Alexander entered Southern Methodist University, and later even entered the University of Dallas School of Law, obtained a lawyer’s license, and became a lawyer. He sat in a modified wheelchair, raised his paralyzed body upright, and defended the client.

Parts of Alexander’s life are actually pretty much like normal people. He flew, went to church, fell in love, lived alone, and sat in for the rights of people with disabilities. In order to leave a record of his life in the iron lung, he bit the stick connected to the pen with his mouth, and spent 5 years writing his memoir “Three Minutes for a Dog: My Life in the Iron Lung.”
