AMD: Ryzen 3 3300X and 3100 CPUs for entry-level gaming PCs

AMD formalizes Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X processors, quad-core chips that will take place inside computers gaming, creative or entry-level professionals.

The third generation Ryzen processors were for the time distributed between the high and the mid-range with the Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 series. AMD takes its offer down with the arrival of entry-level versions , the Ryzen 3 3300X and Ryzen 3 3100. These processors obviously use the same architecture (Zen 2) and the same engraving process (7 nm) as their predecessors.

Lacking an embedded graphics solution (iGPU), these CPUs will be housed in PCs equipped with dedicated graphics cards. They target, in fact, three categories of users: players, creatives or business users. These entry-level processors each have four cores. These cores are divided into two groups (CCX) on the Ryzen 3 3100 and in a group on the Ryzen 3 3300X, giving the latter lower latencies – and therefore increased performance. Both are content with a 65 W thermal envelope.

Offered at contained prices – $ 99 and $ 120, the French price not yet known – the two newcomers are accompanied by a new chipset named B550. This chipset brings support for PCIe 4.0, hitherto exclusive to expensive X570 motherboards (from € 180 for the cheapest, the average price being over € 200). For those who would be tempted by these third generation Ryzen 3s, they can however turn to motherboards with the B450 chipset – they will then lose support for PCIe 4.0 and compatibility with future fourth generation Ryzen processors (Zen architecture 3). Obviously, the motherboards on X570 chipset are also compatible, but their high-end positioning does not necessarily suit the target of these Ryzen 3.

The new AMD chips will be available from the beginning of May. However, we will have to wait until June 16 for motherboards with a B550 chipset. The various partners – ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Colorful, GIGABYTE and MSI – of the brand are on the bridge to offer a fairly wide offer according to the words of AMD, 60 models being on the program. We will be testing these chips in the coming weeks.
