ALPHEN AAN DEN RIJN –
The major fire in a former funeral home on Willem de Zwijgerlaan in Alphen aan den Rijn is under control, reports media partner Studio Alphen. The fire broke out just before 10:00. So much smoke was released that the fire brigade called to keep windows and doors closed.

The fire brigade reported that the fire was raging in the funeral home, but the emergency services could not rule out the possibility that the fire spread to the neighboring Salvatori church. ‘We take into account different scenarios: whether the fire continues to develop indoors and we can calm it down. But if it turns out to be a blazing fire, we take into account that a lot of shards of glass and smoke will be released, ‘fire brigade spokesperson Ingrid Gort told media partner Studio Alphen on Wednesday morning.
The fire has not spread and the situation is now under control.
The fire brigade scaled up to ‘very large fire’ and was on site with a lot of equipment. The intersection of Prins Bernhardlaan with Willem de Zwijgerlaan was closed to traffic. This also applied to the Queen Juliana bridge. The public was also called on not to watch the fire.
Vacant property
According to media partner Studio Alphen it concerns the vacant building of Kramer Uitvaartzorg. The building has been vacant for two years. The intention is to build care homes and apartments at that location.
