As part of a pilot program with the United States Department of Agriculture (or USDA) Amazon allows New Jersey customers with SNAP benefits, or food stamps, to purchase groceries online at home. .
New Jersey State Beneficiary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) beneficiaries can use their Nutrition Assistance benefits to order groceries online at Amazon, in addition to other vendors, to receive them directly at their doorstep thanks to a pilot program launched in April 2019 by the United States Department of Agriculture.
SNAP recipients can redeem their benefits online. Amazon has offered to work with USDA and participate in this momentous pilot program because it believes in its goals and its potential to significantly extend its benefits to the public.
Amazon is committed to increasing customer access by offering low prices on a large selection of products. With SNAP online acceptance, Amazon is also offering SNAP New Jersey customers the ability to shop for groceries and home products at Amazon Fresh and Prime Pantry without having to pay a membership. This initiative helps increase access to millions of low-income New Jersey residents by giving SNAP the ability to purchase a wide selection at low prices and with the convenience of home delivery. As the participating areas are extended for the duration of the pilot program, Amazon believes that it will dramatically increase food access for customers living in remote sites and help mitigate the food-related public health crisis.
Amazon is proud to continue participating in the SNAP and USDA Online Purchase Pilot Program, expanding the proposal to New Jersey, Colorado and more states during 2020. Currently, residents of Alabama, Arizona, California, Iowa, Nebraska, New Jersey , Oregon, and Washington with SNAP benefits, or food stamps, can also participate in this pilot program.
