Amadeus-Sanremo: pretend to be normal.
Amadeus has made it known that the Sanremo Festival must be held on the fixed date (2-6 March) e must be with the audience in the hall (at least 500 people more assigned to the various production and organizational tasks). According to Amadeus, there must also be a press room “in presence”, that is, a few other dozen if not hundreds of journalists and operators.
In short, pretend to be normal. It is not a hope, it is a program. It is not a wish, it is a strategy. The choice to pretend to be in normal times starting from the evening of March 2nd.
To date, there is nothing in the real world that authorizes even just hoping that on March 2 there can be even a hint of normal everyday life in the real world. The normality of the scene that Amadeus (and Rai) want is the dress of the Sanremo Festival.
Great Britain closes entrances to half the world, France goes into a curfew for 15 days from 6 pm, Germany registers its record of victims, Covid restarts in China, the USA under constant increase of infections: this is now normal.
It matters relatively little how sanitary the idea of keeping 500 people in quarantine and at anchor on a ship may be. Keep them there for ten days first and then for the entire duration of the Festival and, in the days of the Festival, transfer them on shuttles to the port and here on minibuses and then sit in the Ariston hall. What matters instead is the nature and meaning of the Amadeus-Rai message, the message of normality recited under vacuum.
Sana recites or insane Narcissus? Acting as a normality for millions of Italians on TV can be a choice of resilience. Not letting oneself be discouraged, keeping morale up, giving breath, albeit through what would in effect be an illusory representation. In short, a healthy acting for a good purpose. But making the recitation of normality your own communicative professional figure can also be the gaze of a Narcissus contemplating himself. And who normally wants the forms of displaying his beauty to be unchanging. It can be polishing the mirror as the storm breaks through shutters and windows. It can be the recitation of normality a calling oneself out of reality. With alienating effects and bordering on the grotesque.
Would a Sanremo Festival without an audience and journalists in the flesh really be a mortifying surrender? Surrender to whom, to what? Why should a Sanremo 2021 Festival absolutely have to take place in conditions that reality inhibits at theaters, cinemas, football stadiums, concerts? Or maybe Amadeus is right and really the spirit and soul of the country are cheered up and strengthened with the certainty that the applause is live and that the journalists speak with the singers live.
The government crisis?
