Although unique, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha is not mass produced

KOMPAS.com – Last year, Xiaomi had made a world scene gadget by showing off Mi Mix Alpha, a cellphone with a screen that wraps its body to the back.

Although the design is unique and different from other cellphones, Mi Mix Alpha apparently it will not be widely available because Xiaomi is not interested in mass production. This was stated by the CEO of Xiaomi Lei Jun in a question and answer session on Chinese social media, Weibo.

“This (Mi Mix Alpha) is a pre-research project,” said Jun. “Mass production is too difficult, so we decided not to mass produce and focus on working on the next generation Mi Mix,” he continued.

Mi Mix Alpha is the latest model of the series smartphone Mi Mix made by Xiaomi. But, as compiled KompasTekno from GSM Arena, Tuesday (11/8/2020), its appearance was almost a year ago in September 2019.

Mi Mix Alpha has a screen that covers almost the entire body of the cellphone. At first glance, the Mi Mix Alpha looks similar to the Huawei Mate X in that the screen is folded outwards. The difference is, Mi Mix Alpha is not a foldable phone, however smartphone with a screen that surrounds the body.

Equipped with a screen nicknamed “Waterfall Display”, Xiaomi also claims the Mi Mix Alpha comes with a ratio screen-to-body up to 180 percent. In other words, the surface area of ​​the screen is much larger than the body.

From Lei Jun’s words above, it seems that Xiaomi is still interested in continuing the Mi Mix line after the Mi Mix Alpha. However, it is not yet known what kind and when the phone will be launched.

Xiaomi itself still hasn’t given up on designing a cellphone with a unique design in the style of the Mi Mix Alpha. In fact, rumors are circulating that the manufacturer is preparing a next generation called Mi Mix Alpha 2 or Mi Mix Alpha Pro.
