Sónia Araújo relaxes in Ponte da Barca. “This year holidays are in here and it is very good”

The second entirely Portuguese-made oceanic ship – MS World Voyager – has already set sail from the West Sea shipyards (sub-concessionaire of the extinct Viana do Castelo Shipyards) and carries out the first navigation tests that will take place over four days, Mário announced today Ferreira, owner of the Douro Azul company.

“Our second oceanic expedition ship left very early today and in fog from Viana shipyards,” wrote the businessman, recalling that another four ships will also be built for the same purpose.

Mário Ferreira stresses the “pride” shared by everyone in seeing “this beautiful and elegant sailing ship”, leaving a vote of praise to the employees involved in the construction for dealing with the “added difficulty” in face of the covid-19.

According to the specifics of the ship, consulted by O MINHO, it had a cost of approximately 70 million euros, approximate value of the first version of this oceanic ship, which has already set sail in August 2019 for the icy waters of Northern Europe.

This new ship, similar to the Explorer, is prepared for expeditions on ice, reaching speeds of 18 hourly miles (30 hourly kilometers) with an extension of 126 meters in width and a nautical mouth of 19 meters.

Several trips were sold until the end of 2020

MINHO consulted the promoter of these trips, Nicko-Cruises, confirming the claims of Mário Ferreira, that several tickets have already been sold and many others are available for sale.

For example: between October 24th and November 2nd, 2020, with tickets starting at 2,399 euros, you can take a trip on the new ship across the Mediterranean Sea, passing through Valletta, Lipari Islands, Amalfi, Corsica, Majorca, Valencia, Malaga and Lisbon.

Tickets can vary in price among the 200 seats available on eight decks (decks), three of them with 86 cabins.

6,699 euros (per person) is the most expensive ticket price, comprising the stay in a suite located on the sixth deck.

Third ship takes shape

However, the third ship – MS World Discover – takes shape at the shipyards, and is expected to be completed in 2021.

In May of this year, the businessman took advantage of social networks to counter criticism from the ex-MEP and possible presidential candidate Ana Gomes, stressing that “working from an early age in Viana” is one of the ways of earning a living: “I like what I do and I am happy”.

After the range of these three ships (including MS World Explorer, which has been sailing since 2019), Viana shipyards will build four other oceanic ice expedition ships for Mystic Cruises, a group of the well-known businessman, in an “estimated total value 286.7 million euros ”.

World Traveler (2022), World Adventurer (2023) and World Seeker (2024) are three of these four ships that already have a confirmed construction date and name, as reported by MINHO, exclusively, on December 27, 2019.

Martifer, the company that builds the ships, indicates that, by 2024, Mystic Cruises will total a “fleet of seven ships of this range that reveal themselves as true ambassadors of Portugal, taking to the four corners of the world a huge set of Portuguese brands that integrate its construction ”.
