Also mink from breeding in Castenray infected with coronavirus 1Limburg

Research shows that mink on a farm in Castenray are infected with the corona virus. Ministers Carola Schouten (Agriculture) and Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) informed the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The animals will be culled according to previously announced measures. The duped mink farmer says that it concerns about 60,000 animals. That high number is related to the current season. Mother animals have just had puppies, so the population is four to five times larger in one go.

Clearances
Clearances will probably take place soon. Earlier, police received signals that animal activists may want to disrupt the culls. Last Friday, animal rights organizations Animal Rights and Bont voor Dieren lost summary proceedings to prevent the exemptions.

On Monday morning, 40,000 infected minks have already been culled at a company in Ysselsteyn. Both the location in Ysselsteyn and the one in Castenray are owned by the same owner. Rob Martens is upset about the second outbreak and has one clear message for The Hague. “Politics finally use your mind. And your decency.”

‘Throwing out windows’
The mink farmer refers to the fur animal husbandry law that was passed in 2013. “Basically it means that they throw out the windows at me and then say that they give me ten years to repair and pay for the windows at my own expense and risk. I never had this education.”

Purple card
According to him, therefore, a decent squeeze-out is the only fair and correct route. “If I harm someone, I have to pay it and no one else. If society wants to get rid of the mink, that is the strength of our democracy and I will accept it. But then there will also be The entrepreneurs should be treated in a decent way, so that these people can also build something different. I can write a book about it. Politics deserve a purple card for how they treated the mink breeders. “

Spread
In addition to the new infection in Castenray, the coronavirus has also been found in animals at three other mink farms. These companies in Southeast Brabant will also be culled. Two of these farms are located in Landhorst, the third is in Volkel.

The NVWA is investigating how the coronavirus has spread to companies. The inspection service has contacted the GGD about the possible testing of employees.

In total, the coronavirus has now been diagnosed on thirteen mink farms. It has been found that the virus can be transmitted from mink to human. A number of owners and employees of the companies have become infected. For that reason, culls are being carried out from a public health point of view.
