The alarms went off the day before yesterday at Westvlees, one of the most important European pork producers, when six employees were found to be infected with the corona virus. It was then decided to test all employees of the cutting department. 193 of the 225 employees of the department have been tested for the time being.
164 test results have now been received. This shows that a total of 50 employees of the cutting plant are already infected with the corona virus, 16 of which were already known yesterday. The company is now going to test more broadly among the 650 employees of the Westrozebeke site. The number of positive cases can therefore still increase.
As a precaution, the cutting department was closed yesterday and the 225 employees were put in quarantine. The other departments of the company are still open, because the affected department would work sufficiently separately from the rest of the company. In addition, no other infections are known in the other departments.
