Alpine skiing. Alpine skiing: Charles Conrad’s last departure

Charles Conrad was born on June 12, 1926 in Bitschwiller-lès-Thann. He has devoted a large part of his life to international skiing and has held many positions at the French Ski Federation (FFS) and then above all at the International Ski Federation (FIS).

He thus rose through the ranks, occupying official functions at the Alpine Skiing World Cup competitions and at several Winter Olympics from Grenoble, Sarajevo to Albertville.

Charles Conrad was chief starter of all the men’s and women’s alpine events at the Olympic Games in Grenoble in 1968. He thus appeared in numerous photos published in the press around the world, where he is seen giving the start of the mythical Olympic descent to Jean-Claude Killy who won his first gold medal there.

A fine ski connoisseur, he was our collaborator, signing papers every Sunday in the DNA ski pages under the nickname “Charles Caurat”.

Charles Conrad died on Sunday December 20 at the age of 94. He was cremated in Nice. His ashes were brought to Strasbourg where he lived until 1982 and where he will be buried in early January.

A religious ceremony in his memory will be organized on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

The DNA send their sincere condolences to his family.
