Alonso Failed to Finish Because of …. Wrap the Sandwich!

Bahrain

Bad luck befell Fernando Alonso of Formula 1 GP Bahrain 2021. Driver Alpine-Renault It failed to finish because of … the sandwich wrap!

The Bahrain Grand Prix is Alonso’s comeback debut, who returns to F1 after a two-year absence. Everything seemed to be going well at the start, because in the qualifying session, he got the ninth starting position. Not bad for a 39 year old driver.

However, the conditions were different when the race took place on Sunday (28/3/2021). Alonso was only able to survive 33 laps on the track, and was finally forced to enter the pits after Alpine’s crew checked for a problem with his car brakes. The race itself was won Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).

Apparently, there was something stuck in the car’s brake lines Alonso. And it’s a sandwich wrap. Alpine Executive Director Marcin Budkowski acknowledged this.

“After he (Alonso) entered the first pit stop, we had a small problem, which forced us to reduce the performance of the car. And during the second pit stop, the sandwich wrapping paper stuck to the rear brake line of Alonso’s car,” said Budkowski, quoted by Crash.

“This caused an increase in temperature and damaged the braking system, so he had to stop for safety reasons. Fernando was very unlucky in his first race, even though he appeared strong,” he explained.

Alonso himself was disappointed with the pointless results he got. Even so, the two-time world champion was not discouraged.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t finish because I really enjoyed the race,” said Alonso. “It’s great to be back racing here. It’s good to feel the adrenaline on the grid again, the national anthem, all that stuff is enough to make me emotional.”

“The race itself was fun at the start, fought a few times on the track, but unfortunately I had to end the race due to brake problems, which turned out to be trash in the rear brake line of my car,” explained Alonso.

After GP Bahrain, F1 will take a break for three weeks. The second series, namely GP Emilia Romagna at the Imola Circuit, will be held on April 18.
