Alone at home for Christmas. Ideas for introverts, loners and the self – contained

Decorate the house

Find old Christmas tree decorations, strings of lights and everything else that makes you feel special. And it doesn’t matter if you live in a private house or an apartment, be prepared not to worry – it will be a pleasure for you and your neighbors! Interesting and cool decorations at democratic prices can be found, for example, in charity shops. This will create a festive mood for you and others.

Do you like to receive greetings in the mail?

When was the last time you received a letter from someone? Maybe it’s time to revive this tradition by sending greeting cards? Buy or make your own greeting cards and send them to your neighbors, relatives and friends both in Latvia and around the world. Writing, drawing, gluing cards can be a meditative process that helps to organize thoughts, but most importantly – you will delight people close to you. Just remember that mail is congested during the holidays and delivery may take longer.

December is a time of gifts

Advertisements for the best gift for mom, girlfriend and son-in-law are on every corner. I understand that a holiday alone can be a little sad, but remember that there are many seniors in Latvia who spend their holidays in care centers without the opportunity to celebrate with their loved ones, not to mention the unpacking of large holiday tables and gifts. A lovely letter, a card, a warm pair of socks or a treat would make them very happy, but it’s not that complicated. Just choose one of the options offered on “Angel’s mail“, who organizes the delivery of these packages and surprises a senior with a self – contained, heartfelt gift. You may have 10 euros for you, but for someone it will be an event of the month!

The red dates on the calendar are approaching

Colleagues wish you a happy holiday, the mood gets gloomier, because you know that you will be completely alone. To awaken the hormones of happiness, I recommend putting beautiful Christmas carols on the best tumbles at home and baking gingerbread – there will be a fragrant house, a busy mind, and a treat to treat yourself and your neighbors. You can repeat this ritual as often as you like.

Light and Christmas trees in the city

If you do not want to sit at home, I recommend walking around and looking for the most beautiful decorations and the most luxurious Christmas trees. If you are in Riga, I definitely recommend finding all the beautiful and exciting light objectsscattered throughout the city. Create self-portraits with the found objects and you will have an interesting virtual greeting to send to others.

Mail or sushi in a video call

So that you don’t have to spend half a day in the kitchen, you can order a holiday meal with delivery in a favorite cafe. If you still want a interlocutor at the party table, remember that digital technology gives us a lot of opportunities and a few clicks away is your mom, girlfriend, mommy and cousin with your family. Show them in a video call what your pies, pasta or sushi are. It will be both funny and fun!

You don’t have to celebrate anything if you don’t want to

Cool winter evenings are perfect for drinking delicious cocoa, curling up and watching a selection of your favorite movies or the new season of your favorite series. My Christmas favorites are “Love actually”, the first three parts of “Home alone”, “Klaus” and the series “Home for Christmas”. If you’re a gaming fan and have Nintendo Switch’s Animal Crossing at home, this could be a great place to spend a festive evening with your islanders, exchanging presents and singing songs together.

Immersing yourself in another world can give you exactly the kindness and love you lack in reality.

Giving time

While Christmas is usually a time to receive gifts, remember that it is also a time to give. You can help take shelter dogs for a walk, hold the heavy door for a neighbor, bring shopping from a store to a senior who can’t do it himself. There is an opportunity to help someone on every corner, and this is the time when the joy of what is done is doubled.

Instead of worrying about celebrating alone, you can develop new habits that will help others and make you feel good, because good multiplies good.

I wish you to be bright all year round and see every little wonder! This is what has helped me to live the holidays alone without a family.
