Almost 10,000 people want to succeed in the autumn elections to the regions and the Senate

In the regional elections, 85 political parties, movements and coalitions, which have a total of 215 lists of candidates registered in 13 regions, will run for the votes of voters. Voters will have the largest selection in the South Bohemian and Moravian-Silesian regions, where 20 entities are equally candidates. The smallest selection will be in the Hradec Králové Region, where 12 candidates have registered.

The total number of candidates is lower than in the last elections in 2016. At that time, two thousand more people were going to get involved in politics. Compared to the previous regional elections, the number of women candidates decreased.

The situation is similar in the Senate, where 27 senators will be elected.

“A total of 235 candidates with an average age of 56 are registered in the Senate elections. 84 percent of the candidates are men and 40 percent of the candidates are without political affiliation, “said Eva Krumpová, vice-president of the CZSO.

Most applicants, a total of 13, will apply for the senator’s seat in the senate districts of Kladno, Ostrava-město and Karviná. On the other hand, the fewest candidates for the seat are in the Senate district of Trutnov. Assuming that no one obtains an absolute majority of votes in the first round, half of the four candidates will advance to the second half.

The first round of elections to the Senate and regional elections will take place on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October. If the Senate supports the change in the law, quarantined people will also be able to vote.
