Alleged Corruption Reports in the Ministry of Agriculture Left Uninvestigated for Three Years, Says KPK Deputy Chairman

Jakarta

Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Alexander Marwata revealed that there were reports of alleged corruption in the Ministry of Agriculture (Ministry of Agriculture) is silenced when entering the KPK. The report was not followed up for three years.

Alexander initially explained the monitoring system for case handling at the KPK. He said this was one of the vulnerable points in the KPK.

“There is a vulnerable point in the handling of cases at the KPK, it concerns supervision or monitoring handling the case,” said Alexander at the KPK building, South Jakarta, Monday (27/11/2023).

Alexander then revealed that there were reports of corruption in the Ministry of Agriculture which had not been handled. The report has been submitted to the KPK since 2020.

According to Alexander, the report was only revealed when the KPK was investigating an extortion case at the Ministry of Agriculture which resulted in the naming of Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) as the suspect.

“When we experienced a case that we later determined was a suspect related to extortion, we were serious bleng, I didn’t know that in 2020 there would be a public report,” he said.

Alexander did not elaborate on the corruption report at the Ministry of Agriculture which had been kept quiet. He said the report had now risen to the level of investigation.

“And it turns out that the leadership has also made a disposition and carried out an investigation. But it also turns out that this was not followed up, only yesterday we ordered a thorough investigation,” said Alexander.

“What does that mean? From 2020 to 2023, 3 years (of silence). Well, this is not being monitored properly and the leadership does not have the tools to monitor whether the leadership’s disposition is being followed up or not,” he continued.

Apart from that, Alexander brought up a number of reports from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to the Corruption Eradication Commission which were not followed up. In fact, said Alexander, the KPK leadership had made a disposition to carry out an investigation.

“Including the PPATK report, we have given many leadership dispositions, ‘conduct an investigation, conduct an investigation’, whether it is carried out or not, we do not have monitoring tools,” he said.

The interim chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission, Nawawi Pomolango, said that supervision of case handling at the Corruption Eradication Commission would be the basis for his evaluation. Nawawi explained that supervision of KPK leaders is not only limited to one area of the KPK.

“Previously, the system model had divisions. There was a certain deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in charge of prosecution, a certain deputy chairman in charge of prevention. We will evaluate this, so there is no longer a model that might be discussed like that, all the deputy chairman and leaders are all responsible for the field that,” he said.

Nawawi said that through this system it is hoped that supervision of case handling at the KPK will become more solid.

“In every representative leader who feels there is something he needs check on one deputy he will enter. Mr. Ghufron can no longer just walk to the deputy for prevention and monitoring. “Mr Ghufron has the authority to enter the Deputy for Enforcement when there is something he remembers that he must carry out such control,” concluded Nawawi.
