All-clear: Vodafone’s nationwide faults fixed – Internet

Vodafone customers were extremely annoyed on Monday evening: nothing was possible in large parts of Germany.

“No Internet”, “Customer service has not been available for hours”, “Termination is still going out today” – these are the loud comments from angry users at the portal allestault.de.

The reports have been piling up shortly after 6 p.m. and skyrocketed to around 10,000 around 8:20 p.m. Under the Unitymedia label, thousands of reports are received by allestault.de, even reaching the 40,000 mark there.

Unitymedia was discontinued in February 2020 after Vodafone bought the cable operator.

In addition to the major cities of Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart and Munich, the disruptions particularly affected the Rhine-Main area and the Ruhr area to Düsseldorf and Cologne.

According to Vodafone, the reason for the failures was a software problem on a server that controls Internet traffic.

“The data traffic is therefore not as smooth as usual,” said a spokesman. Technicians installed new software on the malfunctioning server and were able to rectify the malfunction at around 10 p.m. Data traffic is flowing normally again, it said. How many customers were affected by the outage is unknown.
