Alexei Navalny Critical Condition in Russian Prison, Threatened Death Page all

Doctors said Navalny’s latest blood test results showed he could suffer heart attack or kidney failure anytime.

Navalny launched the action hunger strike for 18 days as he demanded proper treatment for his acute back pain and numb legs.

Earlier this month, he complained about his persistent cough with a high body temperature.

Navalny is an outspoken opposition and critic of the Russian President Vladimir Putin. He was jailed in February on embezzlement charges.

Four doctors, including Navalny’s personal doctor, Anastasia Vasilyeva, wrote a letter to prison officials seeking permission to see her immediately.

Vasilyeva photographed and uploaded a copy of the letter on Twitter. The doctors wrote that the potassium level in Navalny’s body was so low that it had even reached a critical level.

“This means impaired kidney function and serious heart rate problems can occur at any time,” the letter explained.

The doctors urged prison officials to let them examine Navalny as soon as possible.

Navalny’s wife, Yulia, said her husband now weighs 76 kilograms, losing 9 kilograms since starting his hunger strike.

Navalny’s lawyers visited him in custody.

The lawyer went on to say that there were no doctors in the prison and that the medical unit on site was run by a single medic.

Calls from abroad

More than 70 well-known writers, artists and academics have also joined in the call to pay attention to Navalny’s health.

They have signed a letter asking Putin to ensure Navalny is receiving adequate medical care.

The letter was published by The Economist and newspapers The world from France.

Among those who signed the letter were Hollywood actors Jude Law, Ralph Fiennes and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Author Harry Potter, JK Rowling, and director, Ken Burns, also signed the letter.

President United States of America (AS) Joe Biden also criticized Russia for paying attention to Navalny’s health.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Biden recounted that the medical care Navalny was receiving was totally inadequate and totally inappropriate.

Prior to this, Navalny nearly died in August 2020 when he was poisoned with nerve poison, Novichock.

After being rescued and recovering, Navalny accused Putin of ordering him to be poisoned. This accusation was denied by the Russian Presidential Office, aka the Kremlin.

In March, US intelligence concluded that the Russian government was behind the neurotoxin attack.

The Biden administration imposes sanctions on senior Russian officials. And after that, Moscow did the same in retaliation.
