Alexandre, ex-rugby player, has become quadriplegic and is looking for a carer

In 2013, Alexandre Barozzi’s life changed suddenly. While in the middle of a rugby match, the player suffered shock during a scrum and became quadriplegic.

He has since had to adapt to his new life. Sunday March 7, 2021, he made a Facebook post in order to find a carer.

A DISCONTINUOUS ACCIDENT

The accident took place in 2013 during the meeting between Bagnères and Lannemezan. After a scrum, rugby player Alexandre Barozzi remains nailed to the ground. As is often the case in this type of situation, he is given first aid before being transported to hospital.

There, he was operated on for a “C3-C4 dislocation on a spine already osteosynthesized with flaccid tetraplegia from the outset of at least C4 level”. An irreversible illness that will eventually make him quadriplegic.

Since then, Alexander’s life has changed dramatically. He is now looking for a carer to help him with daily tasks, namely “going out, eating, shopping”. Someone who has a B permit and who could pick up their 8 year old boy after leaving school.

“Currently, I have two carers a day to help me, including my brother. One of the assistants is leaving and I would like to find another person before the summer ”,

did he know.

It is via his Facebook account that the rugby player published the announcement. Since then, many players and personalities from the world of ovaling have taken the initiative to support it by creating a chain of solidarity on the various social networks.

As a result, Alexandre received more than 150 calls and a hundred emails. The latter was even surprised by the number of people who applied.

In addition, the rugby player also wanted to highlight the respectable profession of caregiver. An essential job according to him because not everyone has the chance to be surrounded by a caring family.

Note that in the comments, many Internet users have expressed their support for rugby player.

“First of all a big thank you for recognizing our work. Too bad I live too far ”,“ I hope you find the right person for you ”,

A COMBAT IN JUSTICE

Before becoming quadriplegic, Alexandre Barozzi had been confronted with medical concerns. In 2009, he had been operated on for a double herniated disc and three years later suffered a spinal trauma. This is why the rugby player has benefited from careful medical monitoring.

And when he signed up with the Lannemezan club, he should have undergone mandatory medical tests. But nothing was done. Critical reviews that were supposed to be essential were not carried out. This prompted the athlete to take the case to court.

“If the doctor could not treat this complex case, he could have called on a fellow specialist but that was not done”,

declared the lawyers of the ex-player.

Furthermore, Alexander could have chosen to end his career because of his medical history. But he did not do it. The point is, he trusted the specialist.
