The beautician killed on Sunday on the Raccordo would have forced the driver of the heavy vehicle to stop after having rear-ended her. Mother Tina: “Whoever saw it, contact us”
“We ask anyone in possession of video of the accident in which my daughter died to get in touch. Maybe someone who mounts a video camera of the kind used for insurance reasons on board their car: if on Sunday evening at about 9 pm they passed on the Raccordo Anulare, the internal roadway, near Casalotti, and noticed a gray Panda and a lorry stop in the emergency lay-by, he could call us and tell us what he saw». It is the public appeal of the family of Alessia Sbal, the 42-year-old from Ciampino overwhelmed and killed by the heavy vehicle driven by Flavio Focassati, 47, now under house arrest accused of road homicide, escape and hit-and-run.
The appeal lacks evidence of what happened after the victim stopped perhaps following a rear-end collision with the truck, the result of a risky maneuver by the driver from which a dispute with Alessia arose. A witness he was heard from the Polstrada but his would be a partial version of what happened because then on Sunday evening, at 21, in the chaos of the Raccordo, he had to go ahead following the flow of vehicles. «Alessia was rear-ended by that lorry and then she stopped to ascertain the damage, she also called 112 twice to ask for assistance. She was very angry», the relatives of the 42-year-old still explain. To confirm this version of events there would be the testimony of her friend Floriana with whom the victim was on the phone when she noticed the strange maneuver of the truck that perhaps wanted to overtake her as she proceeded on the Panda on the central lane of the Raccordo.
«We are waiting to know what 112 answered to Alessia, especially in the second call that lasted a minute – the family members still say -. According to what we have been able to understand, Alessia was overwhelmed after getting off the Panda. The heavy vehicle driverwho had stopped behind her, immediately took off again and ran over her». A reconstruction of the facts that is neither denied nor confirmed by the traffic police. “They don’t tell us anything, we don’t know much more. We weren’t even able to see the Panda, which was seized like the lorry and is in a judicial deposit. She should have at least some dents in the back », add Alessia’s relatives.
The validation of the arrest of Focassati for vehicular homicide would however confirm the hypothesis that the 42-year-old was run over not on purpose but following an accident only then the driver of the truck fled. “I didn’t notice anything,” the 47-year-old’s version continues to be. In the meantime, the family’s difficulties in finding a place large enough to organize a ceremony to remember Alessia are added to the pain of what happened. «Help us – they conclude – because we can’t find it. There are many friends, in Ciampino as in Rome. The Municipality has not contacted us to give us a hand ».
