Alencon. After seven days in hospital, Alain pays tribute to caregivers

It was important for him to put his tribute down on paper. 71-year-old Alain has just spent seven days at the intercommunal hospital center (Chic) ofAlencon-Mamers. This inhabitant of the urban community of Alençon (Orne) underwent surgery that required a one-week hospital stay, from April 6 to 14. Fresh back home, he picked up his pen to recount his experience, playing on the acronym of the place.

“I felt the urgent need to share my feelings, at the end of this week spent in the heart of the hospital, in this period troubled by this damn virus.

Is the Intercommunal Hospital Center chic? Chic even if it is true that the premises are a bit aging. Even if the windows have sometimes lost their sealing of yesteryear; even if the room alone is no longer relevant for the moment.

“The tension transpires constantly”

The tension due to Covid is constantly sweating. The fourth floor was dedicated to patients affected by this virus, thereby concentrating the other patients in the other floors. Let us hope that Joaquim Pueyo, mayor of Alençon, will complete the construction of the new hospital.

So, still Chic? Oh yes, because beyond this failing materiality lies an extraordinary medical community, and the word is weak. Surgeons, anesthetists, doctors, nurses, orderlies and all these little hands essential to the proper functioning of the establishment are there.

This microcosm works tirelessly and with tenacity in the service of patients. The working day can last 8 or 12 hours, sometimes during the day, sometimes at night, with a guard who returns every other weekend. And yet, fatigue in no way affects the will, skill, assistance, patience, listening skills, understanding, kindness shown by all the medical staff.

“A real hive with a fragile balance”

Not Chic for families? Because of the current pandemic, visits are no longer authorized, the door to the upper floors must remain sealed against the introduction of this scourge. Even if it is heartbreaking, the majority of families accept it. The temptation to call nurses for news is strong, everyone tries to do their best to reassure loved ones, avoiding disrupting the service too much.

People not Chic? Unfortunately, no one will be able to prevent the eternal moaners from criticizing, from speaking very often without knowing, without understanding the stakes, the chaotic situation, the fragility of the moment. I prefer to let these cold piss bray as far as possible so that their selfishness, their ignorance and their stupidity do not hide the reality they refuse to see.

So in the end, is it Chic? A thousand times: YES! Yes, because at the end of these seven days, I discovered real life in the heart of the Alençonnais hospital. Chicam is a real beehive, with a fragile balance, but which succeeds tremendously well in its mission, thanks to the women and men who work there.

To all of you, Hervé, Solongo, Perrine, Nathalie, Manon, Élise, Aline and the entire team on the third floor, a big thank you for everything you do. Your commitment, your generosity and your smile become the honey that calms, reassures and participates in the healing of those for whom you are responsible …

You carry the traditional values of the hospital to the highest level. A thousand times thank you ! “

Alain, grateful patient.
