The Chamber of Labor (AK) has taken up the ball of the #ReframingQuotenfrau initiative and is strengthening its call for a women’s quota in companies. “Our goal must be: Equal rights at all levels and lots of proud quota women,” said AK President Renate Anderl in a broadcast on Sunday. Nothing can be achieved with voluntary action.
The “Women’s Management Report” that has been compiled by the AK for more than ten years shows that a quota makes sense. For years there was no increase in the proportion of women at the top level. They were “only to be found with a magnifying glass” both on the supervisory boards and especially on the executive boards. It was only with the introduction of the 30 percent quota for the supervisory board that there was movement in these decision-making bodies. Companies for which this law applies now have a share of 32 percent, according to the AK.
“The next step is therefore the quota for the board of directors,” said Anderl. “What Germany is showing, Austria must now imitate. Because we women can tell a song about the fact that nothing can be achieved voluntarily. “
“The current crisis in particular has shown what women can achieve and that it is they who keep the system running,” said the AK boss. “It is all the more important now that more women come into management.” Because women would “lead companies more sustainably” and also “better understand the problems and worries of the largely female workforce in many companies,” said the employee representative.
