The government explains that the revision of the medical law is intended to protect patients and is in balance with the regulations of other professional organizations. Minister of Health and Welfare Kwon Deok-cheol appeared on KBS’Sunday Diagnosis’ on the 21st and said, “If you look at the current situation for the past five years, the average number of people affected by the amendment is about 30 to 40 per year.” “Absolutely many medical professionals have no problems with the revision of the law. No.” Currently, in the case of professional occupations such as lawyers, certified public accountants, and judicial officers, if they are sentenced to more than a confinement, they are automatically disqualified for a certain period of time according to related laws. If a public official is also sentenced to a prison term or higher, he or she is dismissed (naturally retired) according to the National Public Officials Act. Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun said in an article posted on Facebook that day, “The medical association misrepresents the facts and deceives the public as if a doctor’s license was unconditionally revoked even if a traffic accident occurred.
