Again arrests in Austria after attack in Vienna

In Austria, two people have again been arrested for the attack in Vienna, from early November. A 20-year-old terrorist then shot four people dead during a murder tour of the city. Seventeen people were injured.

One of the men now arrested is a 26-year-old Austrian of Afghan descent. According to the police, his DNA was found on the weapon that the perpetrator used. No details have been disclosed about the other detainee.

Previously, fifteen other people were arrested in Austria. Investigations are also underway in Germany and Switzerland into people who had links with the perpetrator.

Radicalized

The perpetrator, who was shot by the police, was known as an IS supporter. He had previously been jailed for 22 months for wanting to travel to Syria. In prison, he pretended to have been deradicalized, which led to his parole last December.

The Slovak Intelligence Service Austria warned that the man tried to buy ammunition in that country last summer. Nothing seems to have happened with that warning.
