After the controversy, the Municipality now placed the current LGBT flag

What would be a tribute to the municipality of Córdoba to diversity in the International Pride Day It ended with a national controversy that involved former Malvinas combatants, legislators, politicians, human rights organizations and users of social networks.

But one detail did not go unnoticed: the flag that they placed at the beginning on the main pole of the Sarmiento Park is not that of the LGBT collective, but that of the city of Cuzco, in Peru, and of cooperativism.

History

The original LGBT flag was created by Gilbert Baker, a former American military man, artist, designer, and LGBT activist, who passed away in 2017.

The multi-colored ensign was first waved on June 25, 1978, at the Pride Festival in San Francisco, United States. They say its author was inspired by the song “Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland, which was later popularized by singer Israel Kamakawiwoʻole.

The original flag had eight colors, and each one meant something different: pink, sexuality; red, life; orange, health; yellow, sunlight; green, nature; turquoise, magic and art; indigo / blue, serenity; and the violet, the spirit.

Harvey Milk was an American politician, known for being the first activist to openly declare himself gay and be elected to public office in the United States. On November 28, 1978, Milk was assassinated and from then on the LGBT flag became more relevant in public life and his demand began to increase.

The problem was that the pink color was very difficult to get, so the manufacturing company decided to dispense with this tone and adopt a new version, seven colors.

Another inconvenience arose when the colors were camouflaged with the light poles where the flags were placed, so they decided to reduce the number of tones and adopt the current standard, which consists of six stripes. Turquoise and indigo were removed, leaving red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet instead.

As early as the 1980s, the flag enjoyed unprecedented popularity, and the city of San Francisco gained worldwide fame for being the most inclusive city in the world.

Last Friday, the municipality of Córdoba hoisted the seven-color banner, which does not represent pride and diversity but corresponds to the city of Cuzco, in Peru, and is also a symbol of cooperativism.

During Sunday morning, from the Palacio 6 de Julio they rectified the error and hoisted the original LGBT banner.

In the afternoon, it was known that protesters again came to the place and insisted on removing the flag, but they were dispersed by the Police.
