Social media is under the spell of a leaked list with the full results of the Ballon d’Or election. The prize will not be awarded until November 29, but it would already be certain that Robert Lewandowski won the prestigious award.
The Spanish Mark announced the top twenty on Wednesday and a list with the full results circulated via social media. Lewandowski finished at the top, with a total of 627 votes and record winner Lionel Messi and Karim Benzema next to him on the podium. The other two still active former winners – Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric – seem to have to make do with a ninth and a twelfth place.
Organizer France Football has put thirty players on the thirty-strong shortlist, although that list also leaked start this month Early out: Simon Kjaer earned an honorable mention after his exploits at the European Championship, but Lewandowski, Benzema and Mohamed Salah (probably this year’s number four) were soon named as top favourites. Messi narrowly trumped Virgil van Dijk in 2019 and has been the defending champion ever since: the prize was not awarded in 2020 due to the then outbreak of the corona pandemic.
