After 70 years together, this couple with corona holds hands one more time | Coronavirus

British media picked up the heartbreaking story yesterday. Derek and Margaret from Partington had known each other since they were 14 and never left each other since. They had five children, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The elderly woman was first admitted to Trafford Hospital in Manchester. Later Derek ended up in a different hospital. Still, he was taken to the same hospital as his wife because doctors feared she would not have long to live. “I got a call to ask if there was anyone else who wanted to visit her,” says daughter Barbara Smith (50). “Of course my father took the opportunity to be with his wife again.”

Derek and Margaret were both hospitalized for specific health problems, but subsequently became infected with the coronavirus. “I think my father got it there, but he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Not a hair on his head who thought of not being with her. ”

“The arrival of Derek seemed to give them a boost,” said Barbara. But the early recovery proved to be short-lived. Derek died on January 31 and Margaret three days later.

“They loved to enjoy life together and get the best out of life,” said Barbara. Margaret was also crazy about bingo, Derek played dominoes in the pub. Last year they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. A date for the loving couple’s funeral has yet to be set, but the family hopes it can be a joint ceremony. Derek and Margaret wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
