Women in Afghanistan are now increasingly languishing. This is because Taliban who currently rule Afghanistan again restrict women’s freedom.
Reported by The New Arab, Wednesday (20/7/2022), the Taliban ordered women working in government agencies to send their male relatives to replace them. This is the latest example of hardline policy Taliban in limiting women’s freedom in Afghanistan.
British media report, The Guardian, said as many as 60 female workers in the Afghan Ministry of Finance received phone calls from Taliban. The Taliban are said to have asked them to recommend male relatives to replace them because “the workload in the office has increased”.

The female workers, vented their anger at the request. These women are employees who were repatriated after the Taliban returned to power in August last year and received a pay cut.
The female workers emphasized that they had spent years in service for highly specialized positions. They also convey anxiety and uncertainty for their future.
One of them is Maryam (37), who has been an employee of the Afghan Ministry of Finance for a long time. He said he received a phone call from the HRD where he worked.
