Afghan representative canceled speech at UN General Assembly

The Afghan representative refused to speak at the UN General Assembly. Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ghulam Isaksai, appointed by the previous government, was scheduled to speak on Monday.

However, as spokesman for the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarrick told reporters, his speech was canceled.

“This does not change the fact that it is he who remains the representative of Afghanistan,” said Dujarrik.

The Permanent Representative of Afghanistan intended to speak at the General Assembly with criticism of the Taliban.

“We have received information that a member state (Afghanistan) has refused to participate in the general debate that was planned,” said spokeswoman for the chairman of the General Assembly, Monica Grayley.
