“UK and Netherlands Agree to Create International Coalition to Strengthen Ukraine’s Air Defense”

Following a meeting on the sidelines of the Council of Europe summit in Reykjavik, the Prime Ministers of Great Britain and the Netherlands agreed to help create an international coalition to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

As writes “European truth“, the Prime Minister’s office said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to a Downing Street statement, Rishi Sunak and Mark Rutte agreed that they “will work to build an international coalition to provide Ukraine with combat air power and assets, providing support in everything from training to the acquisition of F-16 fighters.”

The British Prime Minister also stressed that Ukraine should become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, and discussed with his Dutch counterpart the provision of long-term security assistance to Kiev “to ensure that they (Ukrainians – ed.) can deter attacks in the future.”

In a Tuesday evening address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also announced that Britain and the Netherlands, as well as France, had joined the so-called fighter coalition. “Good start to the coalition! Thank you all!” – said the head of state, without giving other details.

On May 15, it became known that the UK agreed in the summer start training Ukrainian pilots and is already working with other countries on the possible provision of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

In addition, French President Emmanuel Macron, after meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky declared “open doors“for training pilots from Ukraine, without specifying the details.
