AfDB mobilizes $ 600 million for investments in renewable energy | VivAfrik

The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi
Adesina said at the Africa-UK investment forum that her
institution has released a budget of around $ 600 million for
investments in renewable energy in Africa.

There are significant investment opportunities in
renewable energies, especially for hydroelectricity, wind,
solar and geothermal energy among others, suggested the head of the
AfDB.

“But many of these opportunities cannot be
realized if we don’t invest substantial capital in their
preparation to make them profitable, “he said.

Continuing his speech, he explains that through his ease
of project development related to the New Partnership for
development of Africa (NEPAD), the AfDB enabled the mobilization of 8.5
billions of dollars in investments.

It also injected, through its Fund
of sustainable energy, more than $ 800 million in renewable energy projects.

“With climate change and increasing
frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, there is a
urgent need for investment in resilient infrastructure in
climatic disturbances, “said the manager.
