Adult education – Franz Raab in conversation: “Longing for something new is great”

NÖN: Smaller courses are possible again, the BhW has announced the first steps to open it. What about that in the Scheibbs district?

Franz Raab: Many people are happy that adult education is starting again after this long period, especially in autumn there will be a diverse program again in the Scheibbs district. The individual local groups are already working on a new educational program.

What do you think the response will be after the long break?

The longing for a meeting, to experience new and exciting things is great. But some will certainly be a little cautious. Interestingly, we learned through Corona that education can be conveyed not only with presence, but also online.

So will BhW use online platforms more in the future?

We saw that this technique works. There will certainly continue to be mixed forms on offer. Such as online lectures, which are then continued through face-to-face events or a course. I could also imagine hybrid events for readings that can be attended both online and in person.

What cannot be replaced by online events?

Our events are not only there for further training, but for personal exchange, to experience education together, to get together with like-minded people. These are important reasons why people come to the BhW events.

Which of the courses offered are the most popular?

You can’t say that because the offer is so incredibly diverse. EDP and smartphone courses for seniors, creative courses, but also hikes and lectures on nature and environmental topics are particularly popular.

What does education mean to you?

Take an active part in life. Lifelong learning, openness to new things, is important for everyone. Hence the name “Education has value”. This value cannot be set high enough.
